Less Monarch butterflies than honest politicians

I spoke with butterfly expert Dr. Art Shapiro at UCDavis today about why there seemed to be so many Monarch Butterflies around town. He said "What are you talking about, there are less Monarchs than honest populations". This reminded me that wildlife populations are not limited to the small group at Ocean Ave park, but occur across hundreds of miles and rely on conservation efforts across an entire landscape. Our modest interest in protecting the Monarch's at Ocean Ave Park are an important piece in region-wide effort to save this gorgeous insect from extinction. Where are there protected Monarch Groves in Ventura County? There are none officially. We need to do this for the Monarchs, so that there may be more Monarchs than honest politicians!

Visit Ocean Ave. Park in Ventura and witness this winged migration for yourself!
